Hackley Community Care Center History

The Story . . .

The story begins with a vision and passion to provide prenatal services to low income women who did not have access to care.  So, in 1992 Hackley Hospital opened a community health center that would do just that.  Hackley Community Care Center (HCCC) opened its doors in a renovated house on Hackley Hospital's campus.  By the following year, we outgrew this house and moved to a building on the corner of Peck and Barney and moved again in 1994 to its current location at 2700 Baker Street in Muskegon Heights.  HCCC became a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in 1996 and received a federal grant to provide medical services to the uninsured.  It was in 2000 that HCCC formally disaffiliated from Hackley Hospital.  We are now a completely separate organization.

The story is one in which HCCC set out on a mission to bring basic care and education to individuals and families in greatest need.  We know we are not in this alone.  Even though we were not able to mention all of our community partners by name, please know that they are at the heart of our story.

An individual with vision, commitment, dedication and leadership abiliities can make great things happen.  When you have a group of such individuals - working together with a shared vision - the impact is practically immeasurable.

There are many factors that influence the success of Hackley Community Care Center.  This success is not possible without compassionate, dedicated staff and community members working together as a team with a common vision.  That, in essence, describes HCCC staff, Board of Directors, and the incredible Muskegon Community.  We thank you for your support and look forward to decades more of great service.
